On Monday, 16th June, our Year 10 pupils had the valuable opportunity to attend a Sampling Day at Wigan College, held across both the Parsons Walk and Pagefield campuses.
Sampling Days provide an excellent chance for students to immerse themselves in the college environment and to gain first-hand experience of a variety of subject areas. These events play a crucial role in helping students make informed decisions regarding their post-16 education pathways.
Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by staff and tutors from Wigan College. They engaged in a diverse programme of activities, which included participating in academic taster lessons based on their individual subject preferences. In addition, students were able to explore a range of vocational options through practical, hands-on sessions. These included motor vehicle maintenance, plastering, joinery, bricklaying, and mechanical engineering – all designed to give students insight into the practical skills involved in these trades.
As part of the day, students also received a comprehensive briefing outlining the various post-16 options available to them. The session covered key information about the college application process, including how to apply, the importance of attending open days, and what to expect during the transition from school to further education.
The day was an informative and engaging experience, and we are confident that it has helped to broaden our students’ understanding of their future education and career possibilities.
