Between now and the end of this term, the Caritas Ambassadors and Eco Committee are inviting all MSJ students to take part in a challenge to collect reusable carrier bags. These bags will then be donated to the Destitution Project, following the recent discovery as an urgent need during our latest visit.
The Caritas Ambassadors are passionate about supporting the vulnerable in our community, and this initiative embodies the Catholic Social Teaching of Option for the Poor and stewardship. It’s a wonderful opportunity to put these values into action and make a real difference.
For our Eco Committee, this challenge is equally important as it promotes sustainability and encourages the reduction of single-use plastics. By collecting reusable carrier bags, we’re not only helping those in need but also raising awareness about the environmental impact of disposable bags and encouraging more sustainable choices within our school community.
The competition will be held across PDT groups, with tutors encouraged to support students in gathering as many reusable carrier bags as possible. Bags should be kept safely until the Caritas Ambassadors come around to collect them in the final week of term.
The PDT group in each year group (7-10) that collects the most bags will receive a box of chocolates as a reward!
Let’s get together to help those in need, support our environment, and make this challenge a success!
